Laundry Reno - Reveal

Renovators are often looking for the perfect balance between aesthetic and functionality. Getting it right can be difficult so it takes a bit of planning, a bit of compromise and a bit of work.

Our laundry was a textbook flip job. It had some modern cabinetry, modern floor tiles and the rest was very much original and very much in need of a face and functionality lift. We always start with planning, it’s the single most important role in a reno because it controls the budget, time, labour and of course product.

What we liked about the space

  1. It’s size

  2. The natural light

  3. Access to the back yard

  4. Where the cabinetry was

What we didn’t like:

  1. The lack of storage

  2. Flooring and materials on walls and ceilings

  3. Architraves and skirtings

  4. Doors

  5. Tapware and lack of bench space

Kaboodle Kitchens

We have friends that used kaboodle and raved about how easy it was to DIY their laundry, so when the opportunity came about to work with them we headed down to Bunnings and got researching how this could work for our home (and soon realised it works for any home).

Flooring

The tiles were the first thing to go, they were not right for a laundry, as soon as you had a spill the risk of slipping was almost every time. We installed Quickstep, soft oak medium from Flooring Xtra which is a game-changer because it’s a waterproof laminate so we have it in our kitchen, bathroom and now laundry and love it. We had Flooring Xtra install this because we wanted it done right, especially because it’s a space with potential to get wet.

The finished space is cohesive with the rest of our home, the Resene black white connects the laundry with rest of the house and it’s now a room that is built for function. Mooch got creative with how we organise our storage with bins from Bunnings which has made the most of the layout and everything now has a place.

The new exterior door from Bunnings has cleaned up the area and we’re so glad we made this change and I’m sure Frankie is too because she now has a new lush door too!
