Around the home during COVID - 19

Things to do around your home when in isolation

A simple guide to staying productive when at home during the COVID-19 isolation period

It’s not very often you are told to go home for four weeks, stay there and don’t leave. With the latest COVID-19 shaking things up around the globe, we’ve been housebound for a minimum of four weeks.

Mooch has been planning what her next month looks like so she can make the most of this odd opportunity and tick some things off the to'-do list that usually get bumped down the list every time a new item is added.

Here are some things to keep you occupied when in lock-down

Shake up your style

When was the last time you gave your style a shake up? We love swapping things between our rooms and decluttering. Why wait to spring to have a good clean out, just crack in to it and change up the look and feel of your rooms.

Repot your plants

If you have some potting mix in the garage and some spare pots, now’s a good time to give those roots some room to breathe. Head to our Instagram highlights for tips on how to do this. This is also a great time to propagate and split plants…. who doesn’t love more plants!?

Organise your cupboards

This takes time, right? Well, you have plenty of that so rip every item out, recycle jars and containers and get creative with home label makers to create a Pinterest worthy space. A top tip here is using things like protein containers and Peanut butter jars for storage.

Clean up the garage

It’s the job we all run from but when it’s done you’ll actually be able to use the space. Use hooks, shadow boards, and clamps to hang things on your walls to give you floor space, use shelving to stack camping gear and make use of the rafters for ladders and offcuts of timber.

Touch-ups

Jeepers, if you have kids or a dog, I’m sure you’ve got a few of these. We have a heap in our home and we are going to nail them over the coming weeks. We do some in the morning and some in the evening as the light changes in the house.

Go sustainable

We’ve been meaning to create a sustainability plan for our home for a while but haven’t managed to sit down and talk through what needs to happen. From composting to making your own detegent spray to growing your own vegetable garden, you don’t need to action anything now but you can make a plan and when stores are open again you can action it.

Start a garden with the kids

One of my favourite memories as a kid was having my own garden to maintain, it gave me a sense of accountability and showed me the beauty of nurturing a plant in nature. Section off a piece of the garden for the kids and get them involved in composting and planting, you can even start identifying plants with them.

Clean your spouting/guttering

Winter is just around the corner, with autumnn here the spouting gets clogged with leaves and results in blockages. Now’s a good time to check everything is working as it should and is in good condition. See this blog post for more info
